Its always great to go to the larger shows but the little shows are also time well spent and offer an opportunity for all punters to show off their pride and joy and the Grange Classic Garage show in Smeaton Grange Southwest Sydney offers just that!
The Grange Classic Garage show is held the first Saturday of every month 11 months of the year only forgoing the holiday month of January.
The event is held in a factory complex on Anzac road Smeaton Grange and is the brain child of Peter Lasakaris tenant, car collector and owner operator of Care Van Services and event photographer and employee of another of the complexes tenants (C&A Mobile) Ben Geering (Geering Up Photography).
The event like many events started with a bang in its early years and at one time use to fill the complexes large parking area but these days there is still a large contingent of cool cars and bikes but only three quarters around a hundred cars which is still a great turn out for a monthly event and offers a great line up of cars and rods from Aussie and Yank muscle to VW Beatles and Rotary Gemini. The line up is great and always changing and when it comes to numbers the boys have never really put a count on it but estimate around 100 cars are parked at anyone one time and because there is a constant flow of passing traffic throughout the show its hard to give an accurate count.
To keep the show evolving and participation up organizers Peter and Ben set aside 10 spaces in prime positions and send invitations to clubs for consideration to being feature club of the month which has a two fold effect, the opportunity for clubs to show their cars and it also attracts more people who otherwise might not know about the show.
What I liked about the event was the vibe, there is music played through a large P.A system food vans such as Wholly Schnit, Aroma Coffee and for the kids or those with a sweet tooth Classic Treats Ice cream. Classic Treats have been with the event from day dot, be it rain, hail or shine.
The event I attended was the first Saturday of June and whilst the weather threatened rain the turn out wasn’t bad and as the boys predicted there was a large contingent of passing cruisers.
Any event be it large or small takes a lot of support and the boys have been able to gain the support of the complexes strata and tenants, the lighting in the complex was donated by another of the complexes tenants Cetnaj and Strata came to the party with even more lighting and Peters son helped out with installation. Strata also helped out with insurances and by all reports tenants are happy to have the show.
The show is a great family feel particularly around Christmas with entertainment from local dance schools, face painting and the big man himself Santa also makes an appearance.
Shows such as the Grange Classic wouldn’t be possible with out the support of sponsors and we would like to thank C&A Mobile, NRMA, Mothers, Newman’s, Maccas Garage for their on going support.
Do your self a favor and lend your support to a show near you!
